ABOUT

The Atascadero Regional Library, located at 6555 Capistrano, two blocks from the historic City Hall and the Sunken Gardens, opened in June of 2014. It serves as the regional library for the north county region of San Luis Obispo County and provides reference and youth services to approximately 500 people a day.

The library serves 14,500 patrons a month and has a circulation of over 30,000 items (books, magazines, periodicals, Audio CDs, and DVDs, etc.) a month. It offers computer stations for on-line research and provides assistance to students of all ages. The reference librarian and the children's librarian put their specialized skills at the disposal of the public and actively develop programs for their patrons.

The Library also offers 2 study rooms, a Community Room and a Conference Room, available for reservation to the community and groups. Contact Melanie at the library  for reservation information.

GET A LIBRARY CARD

What does it mean to have a San Luis Obispo County Library Card? Save money with access to free books and E books, DVDs, Blu-Rays and Magazines. Attend free adult learning programs and enjoy fun, safe family entertainment. Yes, really, all with this card in your wallet! Welcome to the Atascadero Library! 

Also, a library card gives you access to free movies, e-books, on-line digital magazines, comics, music and more online through Hoopla and Libby!

Online library card applicants will receive a temporary number. The temporary number will allow you to place holds on items in the library catalog and use the SLO Makerspace. It will also give you access some of our digital audiobooks, eBooks, and digital magazines: OverDrive, Enki, and RB Digital. Please appear in person with identification and proof of mailing address to obtain your library card and access to all of the library’s services.

In compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, you must be 13 or older in order to complete this registration.

New!  Teens Can Get Library Cards without a parent or guardian present

Now the County of San Luis Obispo Libraries will be provide teens ages 13-17 with library cards without a parent or guardian present. Teen cards will be for students age 13 to 17 with a current SLO County middle school, high school, or college student picture ID card. Teens may also use any ID card verification that is accepted for adult cards (CA Driver's license, CA ID card, matricula, etc.) They will need to fill out an application and show an acceptable forms of ID - a current local middle, high, or college school ID cards.

ONLINE DIGITAL RESOURCES

Having a library card opens a whole world for free digital resources. You may also reserve, request, and renew library items online as well as cancel holds and place vacation holds.

 

OverDrive is home to over 1,000 titles available in eBook or audiobook format for use with an internet capable computer or mobile device. While not every book is available via OverDrive, new titles are added each month, including current bestsellers. Titles for all age groups available. With Libby, you can listen to your favorite books or read a book online. The online Aspen System even offers Technical Assistance with OverDrive!!

Borrow or simply browse from the Library’s collection of your favorite digital magazines with RB DIgital. All magazines offered are complete editions, with some including enhanced content such as audio and video. There is no waiting list, no need to return issues, and no limit to the number of magazines you can borrow. Read magazines on your computer or download checked-out magazines to a free library read-only app for iPad, iPhone/iPod Touch, Android and Kindle Fire/HD/HDX.
